What is 'cygwin'?

Cygwin is an environment that runs on MS Windows that enables you to run many of the programs and utilities that you associate with Unix or Linux.

You can run a bash shell, execute shell processing utilities such as grepping and piping, and you can leverage powerful processing languages such as sed and awk.
